The RealPower module contains a high-precision sensor that measures the speed of the wheel very accurately. The RealPower software contains a basic scientific calculation for, among other things, measuring the power dissipation. The product was developed together with the University for Technology in Rapperswil, Switzerland.
You will need the following:
- Your vehicle documents
- The total, weight of the vehicle: empty weight + weight of all passengers
- The wheel diameter: wheel measuring device (included)
- The air pressure (hPa): barometer (included)
- The air temperature (°C): thermometer (included)
You only need the wheel diameter (device included) to measure the acceleration with Insoric RealSpeed.
The vehicle weight of the vehicle registration certificate corresponds to DIN 70020 Part 2: Mass of the vehicle including a 90% full tank including driver at 75 kg. Please consider other accompanying persons in the vehicle and additional weight / luggage aboard.
From our experience we know that these weight clarifications are not very precise. For an accurate weight determination we recommend to use wheel load scales. Since 2015 we have used Cartesy weighing systems – made in Germany. Further information you can finde here. Please also visit our shop for products, prices and more details.
If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
In order to determine the translation there are several methods. Methods 3+4+5 are more precise than methods 1+2. If you buy an Insoric RealPower system you will receive an email from us with a document with more detailed information.
- Reading the switching speed or rev via tachometer. Enter the value via V-label
- OBD data logger for determining switching speed/rev. Enter the value via V-label
- Use our database in dropbox
- Look for data in your car manual or in the internet
- Database Halsmayr Tuning
There is theoretically no upper limit neither for the software nor for the module. Please bear in mind not to exceed the speed limit.
The non-driven wheel never slips. The driven wheel creates more or less slippage in a too small gear in a very strong engine. In order to obtain the most accurate measurement results possible and to exclude the risk of possible slippage, we therefore measure the non-driven wheel. For all-wheel drive, it does not matter if the RealPower module is mounted front or rear. We usually take the rear axle, unless you know that there is more power in the rear wheel, like the R8, GTR or 911 Turbo / GT2 / C4S. Here we attach the module on the front wheel. For safety reasons, we also recommend the passenger side, so that the person who attaches the RealPower module to the wheel and removes it, is on the side facing away from the traffic.
Under wet road conditions the results might be wrong due to slipping effect. If you can rule this out the measuring is possible. Please use the included protective cap and additional tape.
We recommend to leave the protective cap always on the module during autumn and winter months to avoid losing it. Otherwise water and dirt might get into the module and damage it. If the weather is bad we recommend additional protection/fixation.
To protect the module from falling, we recommend to leave it in your pocket until you fix it and put it back directly after the measuring process until you need it for reading. Thereby you reduce the risk that it may fall out of your hand.
Please use exclusively TESA Power Strips in size Large 5cm x 2cm. The price for 10 pieces is about 5 € on the Internet. Please always use two strips next to each other.
Please look at the hub cap before attaching the module to check if it is firmly seated in the rim. Otherwise secure the module and cover additionally with duct tape.
When loosening the module after the measurement, remove the Powerstrip according to Tesa instructions.
You can record data up to 80 min. We attach the module only until the very time of the test run, as the subsequent evaluation is easier if you “only ” record the test runs. When you have recorded 80 minutes of data the red lamp Error lights up.
From our own experience: On the coldest days we have previously carried out test runs it was -8°C. The system works without limitations; the results are highly accurate. Since the wheel is ice cold in every sense of the word, it is strongly recommended to additionally secure the module. The risk of losing the module increases with decreasing outdoor temperatures!
Basically, the longer the measurement time, the more data are recorded and the more detailed is the resolution in the image. Our evidence: a car up to 100HP or vans/SUVs up to 150HP can be measured in 2nd gear. In addition, we measure in 3rd gear. Very powerful cars (>700HP) or cars with 8-speed transmission and >600PS we measure in 4th gear.
We did numerous tests to compare the results of Insoric RealPower to a roll test stand. This is a complex topic.
First of all, it depends on the dyno,
The main difference between a dyno and Insori RealPower is that Insoric RealPower measures the power under real circumstances and weather conditions on the street.
No, a difference in speed of 30km/h to the driven V- Max of the engaged gear is enough.
Example: a car drives 140km/h in 3rd gear -> coasting to about 110km/h is sufficient to determine the drag effect.
If a measurement was calculated for the first time with Real Power Software the results are correct. If you change values now that are needed for calculation, it is possible depending on the PC, that the PC does not run the Refresh (update the change) properly (depending on computing power/operating system), and the value will be displayed incorrectly. In most cases, this is obtained when you repeatedly change values. In this case, please delete the marks, enter the correct values and highlight the marks again.
Wheel power = power on the drive wheel
Towing capacity = loss in the powertrain incl. tires
Wheel power + Towing capacity = engine output
Engine output = power at the crankshaft
Standard output: + / – standard correction = engine output as standard
The measuring distance should have the same angle in acceleration and roll phase so that you can produce accurate results. So it doesn’t matter if it is uphill, downhill or a straight line. But if you drive e.g. downhill for acceleration and uphill in rolling phase the determined towing capacity is too high and the result is useless.
This is possible. But when starting the Real Power software, the USB license key (USB dongle) is required. Therefore, you can only ever work with one computer.
You can buy further licence keys in our shop.
Currently it isn’t possible to change this manually. This is set automatically. High speed means large pitch, low speed means small pitch.
Basic and Premium do not contain a Barometer/Thermometer and no wheel measuring device. These systems are intended for the case that you are already equipped for this purpose. If this is not the case, you can purchase these accessories separately with us. For performance evaluation you need the wheel diameter and for determination of standard performance you need the air pressure and temperature.
The software has a counter. The information how many measurements have been performed is shown on the top right.
Open your RealPower software, read out the data from the license key and send us the C2V file. After invoicing and receipt of payment you will receive a C2V file with the acquired rights.
You can either buy another 50 measurements or the unlimited licence in our shop.
You must distinguish between permanent four-wheel drive where the power loss is higher than with front/rear wheel drive or an electronically controlled selectable four-wheel drive such as Haldex. Furthermore, it makes a difference whether you measure a 150HP Golf or a 700HP RS4. The more power cars have, the higher are the friction losses in acceleration caused by the Rotarian mass.
A few examples from our portfolio regarding standard performance and power dissipation:
- Porsche GT3 (RWD) 424,1PS – 47,6PS
- S4 B5 (Permanent all-wheel) Converted 425,5PS – 84,5PS
- Nissan GTR (course Power-Down-wheel) with AGA and SW 587,9PS – 56,6PS
- RS4 B5 (Permanent all-wheel) 3L-K16, S4 gear 701,2PS – 129,9PS
- Golf 5 GTI ED30 (Front Wheel Drive) 317,7PS – 37,5PS
- RS6 V10 (DSG) TTE850, M100 conversion 857,4PS – 162,5PS
This depends on several factors.
For Insoric RealPower users from Germany and the EU countries, the measurement is carried out according to ECC standard.
Because of the different underlying assets, a standard application of DIN results in a higher power rating. But as the car manufacturers publish factory specifications by EEC for decades, in any case the measurement should be corrected according to EEC.
The application of the DIN standard provides a higher value, which cannot be compared with the factory specification. See also question 22.
The difference between the standards most commonly used: DIN 70020 or EEC-80/1269
Standards are used in order to compare different measurement conditions. Reasons are different air pressure, density and humidity, which highly influence the volumetric efficiency of the engine. Another important factor is the ambient temperature or intake temperature. Without these values benchmarking of 2 charts is not possible.
DIN 70020
This standard uses an air pressure of 1013 mbar and an intake air temperature of 20°C as base value. The ambient air temperature and relative humidity are neglected.
EEC-80-1269
This standard uses an air pressure of 1000 mbar and an intake air temperature of 25°C as underlying assets. In contrast to the DIN standard, the ambient air temperature and humidity are involved here as well.
After carrying out measurement runs on very poor road surfaces (potholes, concrete slabs with protruding sub-sections etc.) “Peaks” (significant upward or downward deflections of the measurement) could be observed in rare cases during the subsequent data evaluation:
This phenomenon was only previously observed after measurements on old military airfields in a very poor condition with simultaneous high speeds (150 km/h upwards). These edges cannot be evaluated in a reasonable manner. We would therefore ask you to ensure that your measurement runs are always carried out on public roads.
Evaluation without “Peaks”, with ideal acceleration and roll edges
Introduction: Again and again we experience that customers who want to save some money buy inexpensive weather stations. Our experience on this: From about 100€ you can buy useful devices on the market, but please keep your handy from anything cheaper. Quality in the measurement precision is worth its price.
The absolute air pressure indicates how high the air pressure on barometer height is, i.e. at the place where it is measured. To make a comparison with other weather stations, you have to agree on a uniform height. Each weather station is ultimately at a different height. In the case the relative air pressure is calculated. It results from the absolute air pressure and is offset to sea level.
Why isn’t it possible to use the information about air pressure on your desired location on the Internet? Our meter measures absolute air pressure on site, the information on the Internet is the air pressure converted to sea level = 0.
Expressed simplistically, it can be roughly assumed that the air pressure near sea level decreases one hPa (corresponding to 1 ‰ of the average air pressure) per eight meters’ height increase.
For example, in our facilities in Schierling near Regensburg the air pressure is about 970hPa according to Insoric Barometer. On the Internet you can find values around 1,015 hPa. But due to its height of about 380 meters above sea level, Schierling has an ABSOLUTE air pressure of 970 hpa just as the Wikipedia table shows!

For a time of 30-60 seconds, use a GPS speedometer and drive at linear speed with cruise control. Use your mouse cursor to point the V-mark to the line and modify the wheel diameter until the actual speed is displayed with the V-mark in Real Power.
The reason is a faulty communication between your software and the Insoric server. The server needs a short feedback from your software every 3 months, so that it can work without errors.
Make sure that your internet connection is not affected by any firewall or antivirus program and use the Microsoft EDGE browser to install the latest Insoric software, which you can download here:
https://www.insoric.com/downloads/RealPowerDownloader.exe
If the problem persists, please contact Insoric AG directly at info@insoric.com.
Cause: You tried to start RealPower speed, but you have purchased only a license for Real Power. Presumably you own a Premium or Basic System.
Depending on driver or laptop in rare occasions there might occur an error. Please follow these steps:
- Leave the module plugged into the PC/laptop
- Activate the RECORD-Mode (the orange and green LEDS light up alternately).
- Read out the module again following the operating instructions.
- Save the data on your computer.
- Now you can edit the file.
- You can delete the data from the module.
Windows doesn’t recognize the module. This is a Windows issue and is not related to the licence key or Insoric software.
Please uninstall the USB driver and reinstall it.
If this doesn’t work please update the driver with this link:
https://sentinelcustomer.gemalto.com/sentineldownloads/#
Use the „Sentinel HASP/LDK – Windows GUI Run-time Installer“.
Please put in the USB Stick before you start RealPower.
Your data memory (capacity of 80 minutes) is full. Delete the module data in the RealPower software by applying the icon “delete module data”.
At a certain voltage limit the module will not turn on to protect the battery from deep discharge. Please completely recharge the battery module using the supplied USB cable.
When starting the transmission of data from the module to the PC, the USB port has been disturbed by an unwanted access. Since the Insoric data is encrypted and communication line was not built correctly, it causes this representation. After repeated reading, possibly on Status “Record” on the module, it should work unless the USB port is constantly disturbed by a parallel software.
